Linux Basics By Jobi – Part 1
So you want to learn linux and came to this website, very good.
I say “very good” because when I started my carrier I made a big mistake…
I tried to study advance stuff first which forced me to become one of the worst student in the class- big mistake!
Anyway you don’t have to do that mistake because I already did that 🙂
Why learning advance stuff FIRST a big mistake?
Once you know the basics, things will be much easy to understand.
Using basics and your brain (by thinking), you’ll be able to answer most of the complex questions.
So that is the reason I love learning the basics these days!
In my teaching carrer I help people with “the basics”
I know few advance topics but that doesn’t mean I know everything 🙂
Linux is something I know nothing about but don’t worry, I am not your Linux teacher.
What I am doing here is to share what my teacher taught me recently. So once you learn the basics of Linux, thank him by sending him few bitcoins 😛

By the way, I am not by any mean a linux guru infact I am new to Linux like you.
I didn’t like Linux in the past but this story inspired me to lean Linux
The Linux Story
He was a system administrator working for a company and they had few Windows servers…
If you ever work with windows Operating system, this sucker crash some time
My computer crashed few times when I was editing a video for my youtube channel
Anyway the story was same, windows was crashing all the time so the company hired a consultant to inspect
The consulted said, we have a better solution so he installed one Linux Operating system and installed all type of softwares needed for that company to this one Linux box.
Do you know that Linux is an open source which means you pay nothing for the Operating system?
Compare to the 4 machines, this one Linux box was perfoming better(no crashes, no angry boss, life is cool)
From that day, he started liking Linux and tried to learn more about Linux
Anyway I am still using windows machine to edit my videos but to be frank the software crash most of the time and I had to re-work!
when I see my application crash ” I get angry” but I don’t like me being angry. That’s a truth!
So if Linux is better than Windows, my next computer will be linux based so I am going to test aka learn Linux operating system for 30 days, that’s what my teacher told me.
He promised he will teach me linux within 30 days and that is my promise to you as well.

What Is Linux
Linux is an operating system. It’s open source first released on September 17, 1991, by Linus Torvalds.
What is operating system(OS)?
Operating system is system software that manages computer hardware and software resources.
Imagine your favourite song stored inside a cd and you want to hear that song. What you do with that cd?
Put inside a cd rom drive correct?
Without an opearting system, your computer doesn’t understand that song or CD
There are many operating system types such as windows, MacOs, Linux. These 3 are dominant in the personal computer space.
We are going to learn Linux Opearting system for the next 30 days.
Best way to learn Linux opearating system is by installing them.
Let’s install a new Linux opearting system
note: Linux generally comes in 2 flavours
1. Redhat based
2. Debian based
For the next 30 day I am going to install CentOS which derived from Redhat.
I’ll be installing CentOS on my existing computer which already have Windows 10 Installed.
For this study purpose I will be installing CentOS on top of my windows Opearting system.
So the plan is, install first Oracle Virtual box, a software that will allow me to install Linux on top of my Windows
Second, install CentOS Linux Operating system inside Oracle Virtual Box
